Junior High school of Skotoussa, Serres, Greece

GSS BildGeschwister-Scholl secondary school is located in the town of Gütersloh in North-Rhine-Westphalia on half way between Hanover and Cologne. It is named after the siblings Sophie and Hans Scholl, two young students who participated in the German Resistance during WWII. Taking on their heritage, one of our main school values is to cherish, defend and value all nationalities and religions. There are more than 900 students at our school and currently 92 teachers. Students are between the ages of 10-16 years old. The school has quite a number of profiles in different fields among those are School of Europe, School of Health, School of the Future  and MINT School. Our study courses include classical science and computer-based skills, social studies and language courses as well as sports, art, music and mechanics. The school puts big emphasis on project work above all in the fields mentioned . It cooperates with a number of extern partners that either come into the school or else students go out and gain experience by visiting them. Additionally, our school participates in a multitude of competitions and exchange programs. Value education is an integral part of work: respect, responsibility, appreciation and civil courage are central values that school life is based on. Our school spirit embodies a mutual helping system. This means that students help each other in special tutoring systems: We have students that work as media scouts, sport tutors, first aid tutors, bistro and break assistants and mediators.

Other important aspects are worked on in democracy education,  individual tutoring programmes and lessons in all grades, in training programmes to develop social skills as well as method competences e.g. reading/writing ,  self organization skills and cooperative learning. Quite a number of our students are from families with a migration background. The  participation in the project will be helpful to foster the process of integration of any newcomers especially non-German-speaking students.

Due to the political situation the number of students with no or less knowledge in German is growing.  Because of this  our school has installed international classes with special German language supporting courses.

I.I.S. “Newton-Pertini”, Camposampiero, Italy

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERAThe „Newton-Pertini“ has been newly founded in the traditionally rural area of Camposampiero and combinesthe two past high schools. Different courses of both former schools have been put together: Science, Modern Languages, Social Sciences, Business and Economics , Tourism, Information Technology and Vocational Mechanics, Design and Fashion Courses.
IIS Newton-Pertini’s mission is to teach students to help them to develop a strong sense of European identity as responsible citizens of the world, by acquiring important competences which will accompany them into their lives as adults.

The name of the village Camposampiero originated from the union of the two words: “Campus” and “Sancti Petri“. The area has been inhabited for a long time, certainly in the Roman times. Following the legend, Saint Antony died here before entering Padua.

Zespol Szkol Ogolnoksztalcacych Nr 3 in Grudziadz, Poland

Poland schoolOur school is a public school which consists of Primary School with Middle School classes and High School. The school patron is the Olympic athlete champion Bronislaw Malinowski, whose spirit of healthy competition and activation of sports is epitomized by our students. Our teaching staff consists of 90 members for about 1,000 students. In Primary School there are only two divisions: a general profile and a sports profile. In Middle School students decide to learn in one of four available classes: European profile, Maths and IT profile, general profile and Sports one. In High School there is only Sports profile. The foreign language taught in Primary School is English, while in Middle  and High School English is the continued language and German is the second one. The school annually cooperates with partners from European countries (Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Spain, Ukraine) and Morocco and co-organizes international youth meetings. Our school was also involved in the Partnership Program, which aim was to organize Youth internships in our town prepared twice for 2 students from Germany.
Our school has been working with European schools for about 12 years. Grudziadz and Gutersloh in Germany are partner cities that regularly organize visits between the twin schools. Moreover we cooperated with partners from Germany, Spain, the Netherlands and Sweden in different Comenius projects. In 2012, as a part of the UEFA European Football Championship, we organized a trilateral meeting of young people from two schools in Poland, Germany and Ukraine. The passion for sport and the positive atmosphere during the football competition led to a continuation of partnerships and to our participation in a graffiti project in Germany which was also attended by young people from Morocco.

Europe is a multicultural continent with growing migration issues. That’s why we have to make young people become aware and get along with a constantly changing reality.
So teachers have to prepare students not only to accept diversity but also to live together offering measures of help that newcomers feel integrated in their new surroundings. Poland is a very homogeneous country with a growing number of foreigners. In our school there are teachers and students from Ukraine as well as students from Mongolia or Czechia.
A group of foreign languages teachers and an art teacher with the help of the principal are involved in this new Erasmus+ project. We want to activate our students (aged 14-17), broaden their horizons and use their imagination to reach the project’s goal namely to create helping systems for the integration of newcomers in our surroundings.
